I found the Herschede at a yard sale for 5.00, and someone many years ago tried to work on it and lost parts. I thoroughly cleaned the mechanism, and made adjustments to the mechanism and the strike hammers. I did not completely refinish the clock, I cleaned the original finish, and then restored it. I do not like antiques refinished, and it usually is not possible to get back the original nice depth of color they originally had. I had to purchase new hands, bezel glass,and a key. Herschede was one of the most expensive clocks in the 1920’s. It is very heavy, and was a little more difficult to work on. Antique Herschede grandfather clocks sell for 10 to over15.000 on ebay. The clock works good and keeps good time. The hour strike is especially nice on this clock it sounds like a church bell. The Revere electric I found for 2.00 at the flea market. The telechron gear box is a factory sealed gear pot, and was frozen . It is just a small round pot with gears that operates by magnetism. I drilled a small hole in it and sprayed it with carburetor cleaner, and then rinsed it out with electronic cleaner. The little gears in the pot started working again, and I filled it up with clock oil, and sealed the hole with a machine screw. It reminded me of a minature automobile transmission. I cleaned the mechanism, and had to restore the finish on the top only, the tiger wood front was still in good condition . It chimes and keeps perfect time being electric.

Clock Collection – Tour of My Kitchen

I had thought this file was corrupt, since I wasn’t able to view it properly (video died halfway through playback), so I never uploaded it. As it turns out, once I transferred it to the PC (just today) it was fine.

Also, the dual chime Gustav Becker mantle clock is currently having a few parts made for it by a friend of mine. Otherwise it’s been fully cleaned, and adjusted.
