I Invested In A Clock That Does Not Work. Poem

I invested in a clock that does not work.

The hands was old so I fixed them,

the face was dirty so I cleaned it,

the body was big for it’s age so I polished it,

the working parts to the time was in side damaged,

so I replaced it with new parts.

“It was sitting their not working still”???

So I got a key and turned the spring so it would go, once again.

When the clock started working and telling the time,

bring life back from the old to the new.

Soon the clock started to slow down, and the time got less and less,

to the minute as then it stoped Gonging.

knowing I had to get the key and wind it up again to make it alive,

I did this.

“And the clock said I am unhappy,

Why!!!

because I am happy to sit here and do nothing.

I know you give me time,

but I don’t want to give you time back,

you just don’t understand.

I said Grandma clock, when I see you working,

I get Joy out of your tick tock and when you Gong,

I know what time it is to go to work,

or when it is dinner time.

I pass you and I see an old clock made new,

once you use to be something nobody wanted,

and now you have a place where you can shine.

But the old Grandma clock said thanks but no thanks,

leave me here and don’t wind me up again,

I don’t want to be alive just left alone.

God has his hands on you all the time,

if you don’t make use of the keys given to you,

then you will die,

love will only work if you use it.

c. 1966 Herschede #250 “The Clock” , chiming Whittington, incomplete

1966 Herschede #250 “The Clock”. My grandparents were a little eccentric, and they collected all sorts of things but never displayed some of them, this clock was purchased in New York City in 1968, shipped to West Virginia and never removed from the original packing was sitting in a local vault with socres of other items we decided to bring some things out just last week- Hence, the clock had not been exposed to the light of day since 1968 when it was crated back up. We were afraid it was going to be mildewed, but the packing acted as a time capsule, still smells of new finish, only thing we had to do was oil the movement, and here we have basically a brand new Herschede #250, forty-three years after it was manufactured. The Herschede #250 was manufactured from 1938 to 1983 when Herschede ended production
